Herbal and "medicinal" teas are created from the flowers, berries, peels, seeds, leaves and roots of many different plants. The preventive effect of tea is attributed to its powerful anti-oxidants (flavonoids), which neutralize the harmful effect of free radicals. When hot water is added and infusion takes place, the medicinal properties of plants are unleashed in the tea and, therefore, more easily absorbed by the body. The de-toxifying and diuretic effects of tea are only two of many well-documented benefits tea can bring to the human body. Desana’s ‘Kidney Tea’ was designed and produced by Naturopath and Herbalist Frank Morellini. He talks about its benefits: “The Kidneys and Urinary Tract (UT) represent an elaborate filtration system that essentially removes waste products from the body.When your kidneys & UT are working well the waste is diluted into a watery bath making it less toxic to the body. Herbs that serve as good general tonics to the Kidneys and UT system include dandelion leaf, couch grass, corn silk and buchu. The combined actions of the four herbs in this tea are as follows:
Couch Grass is a soothing diuretic which benefits all conditions where inflammation, pain and spasms are present in the UT.
